Obedience to the Commandments of God

Jesus Christ MormonJesus Christ told his followers that “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven, but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven” (Matthew 7:21).  Mormons believe that It is imperative that we follow the teachings and commandments of Jesus Christ as they are found in the scriptures and in the words of living prophets, beginning with  Joseph Smith.  Jesus said to his disciples, “If ye love me, keep my commandments” (John 14:15).

While God does not expect us to be perfect in this life, Mormons believe that he does expect us to try our best.  When we make a mistake, we can seek forgiveness through Jesus Christ by repenting of our sins and trying to better ourselves.  We should always strive to improve ourselves by working to be more honest, more loving, and more faithful, as well as by improving the talents God has given us.  The following are some of the basic commandments that Mormons believe God has commanded everyone to follow..
