It appears that the passion behind Mountain Meadows Massacre resulted from several things going on simultaneously. First, the threat of a U.S. army detail arriving in Utah to impose their own order there, and second, the murder of beloved Parley Pratt in Arkansas. The Francher party was mostly composed of emigrants from that state. Memories of past persecutions may have added to the mix.
