My nephew Degan Jeffrey Riley was given the name Degan after his (my ancestor, his great great great great grandmother Elizabeth (Degen) Bushman) from his mother, my sister, Lacy Elizabeth (Oborn) Riley, who was given her middle name after her great great great grandmother Elizabeth (Degen) Bushman from her Father, Blaine Degan Oborn who was given his middle name after his great great grandmother Elizabeth (Degen) Bushman ( accidentally misspelled) from his father, Lewis William Oborn who is the son of Rhoda (Bushman) Oborn who is the daughter of Martin Benjamin Bushman who is the son of Elizabeth (Degen) Bushman.
My grandfather Lewis William Oborn's mother died when he was 12 years old and enjoyed hearing stories about his mother Rhoda (Bushman) Oborn and great grandmother Elizabeth (Degen) Bushman from his grandfather Martin Benjamin Bushman. He felt a connection to his great grandmother Elizabeth (Degen) Bushman and used her maiden name Degen for his son's middle name, who in turn felt the same connection when naming his daughter's middle name Elizabeth using his great great grandmother's first name who felt that same connection when naming her son's first name Degan using her great great great grandmother's maiden name and father's middle name never knowing about Elizabeth (Degan) Bushman's deathbed wish that her name to never to be forgotten until reading this story in December 2013. Thank you. I am using this story to be included in a book my Stake 2nd councillor, President Munk to our Stake President about our Gospel Pioneer to be given before our trip to Nauvoo for our youth conference in June. Thank you for sharing my great great great grandmother's story. Natalie Faith Oborn
