In reply to <a href="https://historyofmormonism.com/2009/08/31/exmormon/#comment-7654">amos</a>.

We are sorry if we have offended you. We do not mean to imply that all those who used to be members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who are no longer members are out to destroy the Church. The difference between people who become anti-Mormon and those who simply consider themselves formerly Mormon is distinguished, though more time is spent discussing the former because they do spend so much time railing against the Church. Our goal on this website is to help those who are not members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints understand our history and goals for the future.

We also do not mean to imply that any problem the Church has had is due to exMormons who have become anti-Mormons. This is, of course, not true. There have been many mistakes made by members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints which have brought the judgment of God upon them. It is historically accurate to say, though, that certain exMormons who did become anti-Mormon were extremely influential in a great deal of persecution against the early Saints and particularly Joseph Smith.

There are myriad reasons why a person who was once a member of the Church decides to leave, and just because a person decides to leave does not make them evil or malicious; far from it. Anyone who has left the Church should be treated with love, forgiveness, acceptance, and a listening ear.

This article is trite, inaccurate, patronizingly passive-aggressive propaganda. It's transparently authoritarian paranoia and prejudice. You can't blame all the church's problems on apostates, including the murder of Joseph Smith. It is extremely insulting to be sterotyped with vigilante murderers simply because I left the church. This is NOT how to win me back.
