As President Wilford Woodruff’s life was fading from this mortal world, Lorenzo Snow was in the Salt Lake Temple praying for President Woddruff’s life to be prolonged so that he won’t have the prophetic mantle fall upon his shoulders. On the third day of his prayers in the Temple, since he had not yet received an answer to his prayers, he decided to return to his home. While walking down one of the corridors in the Temple, the Saviour appeared to him and told him that he would be the next prophet of the Church and that He (the Saviour)was not pleased with the long gap of time between the passing of one prophet to the sustaining of the next. The Saviour then commanded President Snow to go ahead and start to reorganize the First Presidency and that was the way it was to be done from that time forward. The vision closed and later that day President Woodruff passed from this life. President Snow recounted this event to his grandaughter “Allie”, (during her visit with him in the Temple), and her testimony of it resides in the Church Archives to this day.
